Once upon a time, there was a young girl with dreams of becoming a singer. She attended and graduated from the infamous Actors' in Okinawa- having succeeded in extensive song and dance classes, she was signed to Sony and released a slew of relatively popular singles including the well received Kodomo no Omocha theme, PINCH -Love Me Deeper- and unusually overplayed BABY LOVE (at least with overseaers??). Her career was totally given a jump start as an actress at the same time: her role in Five was a hit. Of course as an idol, as most idols are, she was milked, churning out a best album as a followup effort to growing (which had no doubt been a successful album).. this was the beginning of the end. Her singles were knocked off the charts faster than they were released.. and despite the newfound sexy, R&B image she had whirled into, her music career spiraled into the pit of one hit wonders. Her final album, breath, quickly became one of the most infamous examples of washed up idols: it peaked at #29 before disappearing. Since then, Rina's been a steady drama & broadway favourite. Hang your heads in shame people- I felt this was her best material out of the three (two?) albums she's ever released despite the travesty of terror that CLUB ZIPANGU is (yes, it's a Ricky Martin cover and yes, the music video gave me seizures). COME BACK RINA. For real: if mediocre singer-idols (ahrm Ami Suzuki) can make surprisingly rockin' comebacks with total guilty pleasure artist combos, give me the Deluxe Rina #2 to go, hold the Ricky Martin!
