Since out of date posts don't show on friends pages I thought I would make another post here for anyone following the journal. I made a post
here about the changes I'm making to how I share files. Honestly not a lot is changing except what I talked about before with abbreviations. I still haven't deciding if I'm still going to keep putting passwords on things or not. I'm not really sure it is necessary since I doubt the abbreviated files will turn up in any type of search engine now. Anyone that has the link will have gotten in from the same place I posted the password. Anyone sharing my links (something I DON"T approve of) will also have the password to tell people. So I'm not sure there is really any reason to put a password on the files. Can anyone think of a reason they would be need? I'm obviously not the best at thinking things through, so maybe someone else might know of a reason.
Although I'm not panicking like some of the other subbers since I've kept all my sub files except the raws since most of them are my own rips. And I've also have active links that are protected by a premium account with MF. I've still spent the last few days in a long boring task of changing file names and trying to find an alternative hosting. I don't believe MF will be taken down any time soon if ever but they are based in the US so I don't want to depend entirely on them. I seen some people at an almost total loss since most of their links where at MU. I also think this will have an effect on files being deleted by file hosting places. Things labeled TV and DVD might get more attention that is why despite how boring and time consuming it is I'm renaming files. I'm probably overreacting but it is far less time consuming to reup the files.
As for a new file host I looked into FileServe and FileSonic since both were suggested. I almost chose FileSonic but discovered they didn't give my any type of download details. For much of what I sub that is the only sense of accomplishment I get is looking at the # downloads of a file so I don't want to lose that :) I ended up choosing FileServe although I myself had problems download as a free user through them in the past. I add a fast link option to most of the files which means that when you click the link you will automatically get to download the file with not wait or ads. Depending on how fast the bandwidth goes I might exclude tv show from that option but for right now all the files will have that. After a month or so I'll do a poll to see how people like it. If the majority don't like FS I look into something else.
