Work and Stuff

So I don't update here much but I figure I might as well throw something in.

I just put in my two weeks notice at my current job to take up an internship at CivicPlus, a company that builds, provides, and designs websites for city and county governments across the country. The internship lasts until early May and has potential to become permanent full-time work. It's a paid internship, 40 hours a week, and will probably be busy, but I think it'll be worth it. Even if I don't get a full-time position I think this will really help me hone my skills as a web developer.

It's kind of scary to think that in three months I might actually be unemployed, but I am keeping my fingers crossed. I figure if I do my darndest and try to blow them away right from the start, or at least show I'm willing and able to throw myself into the work, they'll want to hire me permanently.

I'm also considering doing part-time freelancing. I've talked to one friend about helping her redesign her site. If anyone else out there has a site they'd like done, I'm willing to do some pro bono work to help people out. I'll help you set up just about anything. Hobby sites, professional sites.

Basically I want to start building a portfolio and it would really help me out if you'll let me build a site for you. I'd treat it like professional work. We'd sit down in person or on AIM and discuss the needs the site must address, talk about some design options, and then I'd get to work. I'd log hours and give "quotes," just so I can keep track of how I'd run things if I were doing it "for real." It would be great experience for me and it would help me expand my horizons some and show I can provide different kinds of content.

So if you guys could think about it and talk to me, that'd be awesome. It's a great chance for you to showcase something you want to showcase on your terms in your own style and it would help me out a TON to have these as part of my portfolio so when I start looking at freelancing for money, I have a lot of work I can present potential clients.

In other news, the icon for this entry is kind of old but it's one of my favorite K'zink icons I've ever made.
