I got back from Hong Kong on Sunday. It was a big pain in the ass. My plane got in with about 2 or three others so that immigration was crowded as a bitch. It took me two hours to leave the airport once I got off of the plane.
I then got on the JR. I didn't take the Narita Express because I didn't want to pay out the wazoo again just to get home. The JR Rapid that turns into the Yokosuka/Sobu line however, fucking takes forever. The one I picked up from terminal 2 only went to Zushi. When I got to Zushi, the train had split it cars. I got onto first car of the halved train. When it stopped at Taura, the first car wasn't even on the platform so I had to go to the next stop and take another train back. It took me a total of five hous to get home after my plane landed. No wonder I always have someone pick me up and drop me off at the airport.
I have only a couple of weeks left in Japan. I am tying up a few loose ends now. I got some stuff I promised to send to people.
I was at the grocers at Daei Mall last night picking up some Japanese snacks for a couple of people in the States. The lady at the check out counter looked at me like I was some sugar fiend. It was fun watching these kids watch me fill my basket with gummies, hot potato chips, rock candy, gum, savory sticks, etc. I didn't get anything out there like shredded cuttlefish jerky or dried and spiced crabs.
I took the stuff down to the post office today. The Japanese are so ingenius. No line to waitr in. You walk up to the counter and a machine spits out a ticket for you. When you number is called you go up and od your business. They had something odd on the television while I was waiting my turn. Two chicks, one naked and were fighting in a bedroom while a naked man obviously in distress over the situation was watching them. All of the important body parts were fogged. I found this very strange.
The postal clerk and I did not communicate well together. He kept on saying little packet and kept saying, yes. I know it is a little package/packet... now what do you want from me. It turns out he wanted me to fill out a customs form. I knew I had to do that but we got caught up miscommunicating the message behind little packet that it became quite comical.
I also bought some HELLO KITTY postage stamps. I used them to send off some postcards. When I mailed them I put them into the wrong slot and got yelled at by the guard posted there.
I am thinking about going back to see Pranee in Hong Kong next week. I wanted to wait and see her in Singapore but I think she is feeling lonely in Hong Kong. She has friends in Singapore and it is also closer to home for her.
We had a good ti me in Singapore too but I really don't want to make the six hour flight down there agaion, especially with some heavy flying for me ahead soon. The 3.5-4 hour trip to Hong Kong is a little more manageable.
I checked the price of tickets to both locations and they are the same right now. However, if I go to Singapore it will delay my trip to the States since Pranee isn't scheduled to go there until there until June 18.
It felt really nice walking around Mong Kok with her. I really don't like shopping but checking out the street markets was fun. When I am there I usually just go to the DVD/VDC shops and looks for bargains on films I can't easily find in the States. I don't like paying more that HK $13 for a VCD. That's less than US$2.
When we were walking around one of the markets in Mong Kok we saw this woman throwing these rubbery items onto a table. One was in the shape of an egg. When she threw it down it collased into a yolk and egg white then re-formed into a whole egg again. They are similar to wacky wall walkers. The wonders of Asia will never cease to amaze me.
We ate a lot. For a small woman, she can eat alot. In Mong Kok we ate at one of the outdoor seafood places. It was pretty good. I did not have the chili crabs like I usually do but that was okay. We also ate at almost every Thai restaurant in Wanchai. I am not a big fan of Wanchai but that is where she was staying when I got there. I got us a room at the Empire. This is the second time I have stayed there. This time the room wan't that great but not that bad either. I booked it through last minute hotels/hong kong. The price was reasonable but could have been better. I told herthat if I see her again in Hong Kong we will have to stay in Kowloon somehwere, preferable Mong Kok since that is where I hang out. I don't like the amtosphere in Wanchai.
I really need to see her again before I go to the States because it may be a very long time when I see her again. I think see senses I am going to ask her a big question soon that she may not be able to answer right away. I know she knows I am very disappointed leaving Asia to work in the States but I could not find a position and time ran out on me. It's the kind of sadness that makes me feel that it may have been better not to have met someone as nice as her.
