Friday Night Lights - a few bits non-Tim Riggins bits and pieces ; episodes 112 and 115

Yes there are other excellent elements to Friday Night Lights apart from Tim Riggins - although he's a huge chunk of it ;)

I totally loved this scene in episode 112 where we see Buddy praying and we assume it's about something important. I started laughing aloud when I realised he was just praying about football :D

Buddy Garrity: Thank you Lord for letting Buckley win. I know it was nothing short of a miracle and I thank you for that miracle. I know you truly are an all powerful God to let such a crap team win.

I loved episode 115, Blinders which dealt with racial issues and also the punishment of Julie and Tyra for skipping three classes - they are condemned to play in the powder puff game. :D

I loved the introduction of the coaches for the powderpuff team. Matt and Tim. Tim just comes swaggering forward like the arrogant so and so he is :D

They have to pick teams.

Matt gets to choose his team first and he screws up by picking Tyra :D

Tim's so typical. He asks: "Does anyone here know how to chop block?"

A girl puts up her hand and says she does.

Tim: Nice. Let's go.

Then he picks Lyla.

Finally Matt picks Julie.

I loved the training. Tim's all business, making them train hard. "Go! As one!"

Meanwhile, Matt's team is Deeply Crap. "Up! Up! Oh. Bad! Bad!" :D In the background, Tim's shouting: "We are a team of one ladies! One unit!"

Tyra's all competitive and angry. I like Tyra now, ever since she turned down Tim I've had a new respect for her.

Tyra: This isn't working for me
Matt: (depressed) It's not working for me either

Julie's still pissed off at Matt :D

Poor Matt keeps keeps having to play peacemaker for the team.

Then Matt has to go and beg Julie to play quarterback because she's the only one who can play. She makes him grovel because she's third pick :D

I loved Coach Taylor supporting his wife in her decision to have an 'open forum' for discussion on the race issue.

Even though it's so clear from his expression he thinks it's such a Bad Idea.

Skip over the boring boring Jason bits.

To be honest, the only thing I like about the Jason storyline is:

1. We get to see that Lyla is a really wonderful, loving, compassionate and loyal person.
2. We get a fascinating insight into the life of someone who has been paralysed. It's a real eye-opener - from the basic things to the really complicated.

I don't really like Jason as a character much though.

I loved Coach being all chuffed and thrilled that Matt's made his little girl the quarterback of the powderpuff team :D He's all stern, angry and grumpy dad.

But then he's like:

"Matt Saracen's got you quarterback? Wait honey! Wait! Come here! What you mean he's got you quarterback?"

Bwahahahaha.

Coach training his daughter? Gah. I don't even like football and I wanted to die from the squeeing cute :D

Then the powderpuff game? Bwahahahahaha.

Coach is so proud.

Matt: No matter what happens, we will all be winners
Tyra: (rolling eyes) Please

Meanwhile, Tim's like this ....

Tim: We will not accept loss! We will not accept it!

Lyla's playing well and Tim's looking all movie star with the sunnies but he's hilariously supportive of his team :D

Tyra sees her mother with Buddy and gets annoyed. She looks a lot like Sophia Myles.

Anyway then she takes it out on poor Lyla.

I loved how into it Coach got and how he got yelled at by Landry.

Coach: Son you're blind!

Tami: (reprovingly) Honey
Coach: What?
Tami: Cool it down!

Landry: Excuse me, stay off of my line
Coach: What'd you say to me?

Landry: That line? Back there? That's mine
Coach: What'd you say?

Landry: Excuse me, that's your first one

Tami's all: "Sheesh!" :D

Then Julie wins Matt forever by suggesting they try a cool game play :D

How cute is Matt's grandmother? :D

Victory!

Mrs and Mrs Coach are sooooo proud :D

Landry gloats a bit at Tim which is a bit mean given that he's supposed to be impartial ;) Like I said, Tim is so not a bad boy because he takes it in good humour.

Skip over boring Jason getting excited about getting selected to go to training camp :P He's a jerk. Why wasn't he at the powder puff game supporting Lyla?

Oh god and then coach at home waiting for his wife..... she comes home and he can tell straight away that something's very wrong.

Coach Taylor: Hey babe

It is only because I love him so much that I can forgive him for call her babe. Yerk.

Tami: Hey

He's immediately concerned as she flops on the sofa. He hovers over her and watches her anxiously as she exhales. His face keeps crumpling as if she's going to cry.

Tami: (her voice is brave but very strained) Well it didn't go very well, honey. (Her face twists and she almost cries)

Tami: Well first of all hardly anyone showed up. But then I wish I could have .... (coach watches silently) I wish you could have seen the way these kids were yelling at each other, calling each other names ..(Closes her eyes to fight back the tears, then she speaks in a sharp whisper) It's real hard to make a change around here

He listens intently through all of this, heart in his eyes.

Coach: You know you're an example to aspire to don't you? You give them an opportunity to express themselves that they wouldn't have otherwise b/c you're always ready to listen to them. You never shy away from difficult subjects. They know they can trust you. That's a rarity. You're my wife and I'm damned proud of you.

Then he just holds her. Gah.
