Friday Night Lights, More about Tim Riggins & his flopsy morose hair, episodes 103 - 111

Apr 10, 2007 16:29

I have really started to like Friday Night Lights and not just because of Tim Riggins - although he's a huge chunk of it ;)

Things I have learned from watching Friday Night Lights:

1. There are no Asians in Texas
2. People seem to be interested in nothing except football in Texas
3. 15-17 year olds seem a lot more intelligent than I remember from when I was 15-17. They also seem to drink and have sex a lot more. Maybe it's a Texas thing.
4. Everybody in Texas drives a pick up truck.
5. Tim Riggins looks (and sometimes acts) like Kara Thrace's kid brother!

I like Tim. I'm not a Tim/Lyla shipper. I think I must just be a Tim/Anyone shipper because he seems to have chemistry with any girl he's with whether it's Lyla or Tyra. I think he's so adorable and he's not a bad boy at all. The way he treats Lyla is so sweet and caring and then later on, he's also really kind to Tyra. I do find it a bit confusing that we have a Lyla and a Tyra :D

Also, as far as 'Bad Boys' go, I've decided that Tim is not bad at all!

1. He's polite to adults - calls them ma'am and sir.
2. He is generally kind to women ie. see him with Lyla, see him apologise to Tyra later
3. He carries his crippled friend around
4. He doesn't seem to care what the world thinks
5. He loves his brother
6. He loves his father and is loyal to him
7. He shows up at Landry's performance when it seems even Matt and Julie haven't.

Episode 103, Wind Sprints.

In this episode, the coach consoles Tim and reassures him that he's not responsible for Jason's injury.

He then makes him walk home in the rain which is bad for Tim but good for us because he looks really vulnerable and morose when he's wet.

Then Lyla, after having an argument with Jason, takes out her anger on Tim.

Lyla cries and blames him, she slaps him around, whacking at his face, pushing at him and screaming at him. What kills me is that he just stands there takes it. He just takes it doesn't hit back or yell at her or say anything. He just lets her weep and scream it all out. If he was really a bad boy, he would have slapped her back or pushed her back.

He holds her ...

Then they end up kissing....

Video is here

In episode 104, Who's Your Daddy, Lyla tells Tim that she regrets what happened between them and that it can never happen again. He takes it silently, as his his way - but then at the end ... he shows up in her bedroom.

Gah.

Then he says he can't stop thinking about her.

And then ... gah they're kissing again.

Video is here.

In episode 105, Git 'Er Done, Lyla shows up at Tim's one morning. First of all, he's all morose and droopy-haired.

Then he looks up and sees Lyla.

Then he smiles. He has a really sweet smile.

His attractive bare arm drags a stool over ....

Long stare ....

More Wrong Sex is to follow ... :D

Gah.

In episode 106, El Accidente, Jason stares out the window and sees Lyla and Tim. They've already broken off the relationship but there is still affection and tenderness between them.

Like I said, Riggins has a way about him. When Lyla and Jason kissed, even at the beginning of the series when they're supposed to be all sweet and romantic, it's all right but it's a bit ho hum. Riggins has a real chemistry and makes me go gah.

In episode 108, Homecoming, Jason plays his first quad rugby game. Lyla and Tim come along to cheer him but then Jason punches Tim in the face. :(

Tim and his brother have a horrible fight, but then at the end, it's so sweet.... The frozen peas!! :'( Video is here.

In episode 110, It's Different for Girls Lyla has to deal with the fall out of having cheated on Jason with Tim. She's basically treated like the scarlet woman and no one stands by her except ... Tim. He's been through a bit as well because some of the other football players decided to avenge Jason and smashed his car and have been shunning him. He has stayed silent through the whole thing though, not saying a word to defend himself or accuse anyone else.

In the canteen, Lyla's on her own. Some scumbags come and hassle her, trash-talking her.

They look up and see a sullen, morose Riggins standing protectively behind Lyla's shoulder.

Jerks: What's up Riggs?

They bolt. Riggins sits down and looks around.

Lyla: What are you doing?

Riggins stares at her but says nothing.

Lyla: Don't you know you're sitting with the school slut?
Tim: Let 'em look Lyla, I don't care. (he says the I don't care in a low, sexy voice)

Lyla's looking down, doesn't bother to look at him. He keeps looking at her. Then he slowly stabs at his food but doesn't eat.

Lyla: It's different for girls.

He looks up at her.

Lyla: You can sleep around all you want and people think you're cool. I make one mistake, and it was a mistake......

Tim looks up at her and then he looks down again. You can tell he's hurt by her words.

Lyla: Tim you're making it worse. You can't be here.

He looks upset, gets up and leaves.

Tyra follows behind him, face thunderous.

Tyra: What the hell was that?
Tim: What are you talking about?
Tyra: Sitting with Lyla in the cafeteria? Don't you know you're just making this worse for her?
Tim: Yeah, she kinda just mentioned that
Tyra: Then why don't you just stay away from her then?
Tim: Stay out of it

Tyra stares at Tim and he just keeps staring back at her.

Tyra: (accusingly) You're in love with her. Yeah.

Tim looks upset, stares up at her, down again but doesn't answer ...

Then Tim goes to Jason and tells him that he screwed up, he's sorry but that Lyla truly loves Jason and always has. He tells Jason about how Lyla's going through hell at school. Jason pretends he doesn't care and Tim walks away, defeated.

Jason: (hostile) Yes?
Tim: (sounding very upset) I guess what I came here to tell you is that Lyla is completely in love with you. (Jason makes a sound of disbelief) Always has been and always will be. She's going through hell right now, Street. Hell.
Jason: Sure she is
Tim: People at school are just ripping on her. I mean she quit cheer. She's losing it and I know it means probably nothing coming from me ...(exhales) but I thought you should know.
Jason: Well I'm sure you can help her out with that
Tim: I messed up
Jason: Tim (tries to stop him continuing)
Tim: I messed up big time and I'm sorry ....
Jason: (stops him) Not right now.

Video is here.

Then Tim goes to Lyla's house, braves the anger of her parents and tells her to take part.

There's a knock on the door and Riggins is standing outside in the rain.

Tim: Ma'am, I'm sorry to bother you.
Buddy: (angrily) What do you want son?
Tim: I just want a minute with your daughter, sir
Lyla: What are you doing here? Guys I'll be a minute, I'll be right out ... (closes the door and stares up at Tim accusingly)
Tim: You know that cheerleading thing you have today. The regionals?
Lyla: The championship?
Tim: You should go

Lyla: Why?
Tim: Because you're an amazing cheerleader and I think you have that same feeling I get when I play ... the nothing else matters feeling .. and I think you need that right now. I don't want to see you give up because of what we had between us ... whatever it was ...

She looks very moved.

He is about to walk past but she grabs him and hugs him tight and you can see he's in pain..... then he walks away in the rain ....

Video is here.

Then the performance at he cheerleading classic. Tim's watching Lyla, entranced with his heart in his eyes.

But Lyla

When Tim looks up, has eyes for no one but Jason. It's sad.

In episode 111 Nevermind, Tami Taylor sees Tim Riggins regarding his grades. She believes he's not doing his homework by himself and tells him that he can't have the rally girls doing his homework anymore.

She tells him that he has to do it himself and if he doesn't pass, he won't be able to keep playing on the football team.

Tami gets Landry to come and tutor him for his presentation on Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men.

This is is the episode I notice that Riggins has a Kara Thrace smile and smirk. Some non-spoilery images beneath the cut where I claim that Tim looks like Kara Thrace. :D

Kara smirk is here

Riggins looking morose.

I love Landry approaching Riggins to do tuition, he brushes him off and Landry's like: "What do you want me to do? Read it to you?"

In the gum, Mac sees Landry reading the book aloud to Riggins and is all: "WTF? What's he doing?"

"Studying," Coach Taylor says. :D

Video of the scene is here

On the bleachers, Landry is able to reach Riggins and get him engaged. They speak of the novel.

Thoughtful Tim.

Landry is eloquent as he speaks.

But Tim doesn't want to articulate his feelings on the novel.

Discussing the book and critiquing it are different for him.

The video of the bleachers scene is here

Everyone bullies poor Tim.

Then, surprisingly, Tim shows up at Landry's crappy music performance :D

He's one of the few who do ;)

In episode 113, Little Girl I Wanna Marry You, Tyra goes to Tim for help. Tim walks out and starts to smile ruefully as he sees Tyra waiting for him.

Tyra: Hey
Tim: Hey
Tyra: So I need a favour (Tim glances over at her in surprise) and just for the record it's not going to involve any kind of thank you sex, or make-up sex. In fact it's going to involve absolutely no sex whatsoever
Tim: Tyra, believe it or not it's not all about sex for me (she shoots him a disbelieving look)

Buddy: (leaning back in his chair) Well your timing is terrible, Tim
Tim: Yes, sir, I get that a lot
Buddy: Well first of all I just hired Matt Saracen's dad to be a salesman and I don't mind telling you that could not sell a life preserver to a drowning man. And secondly, I cannot really believe that you're coming in here asking me for a favour after that nonsense that happened with my daughter.

Tim's head drops low and he looks ashamed.

Tim: Sir I know that you're a big man in this town, and I know that you don't owe me or anything for that matter, but Tyra all she's trying to do is help her mom out and all I'm asking from you is to consider giving them a break
Buddy: I respect that. You're a good man. You tell her to come by and see me tomorrow afternoon. There's no guarantees, I mean it's just an interview
Tim: Yeah
Buddy: Now tell me about Smash
Tim: I have no idea what's going on with him, sir
Buddy: Really
Tim: Absolutely, no one does
Buddy: Well ok. You're a good man. I appreciate your candour

In episode 114, Upping the ante, poor Julie gets abandoned as the Panthers drag Matt off to some stupid celebration thing. She's abandoned in front of a diner.

Later, Tim is in court and needs to pay a fine for speeding. As Billy Riggins is not Tim’s legal guardian, Tim goes to get a document signed by his father in order for the charges to be dropped.

Billy warns Tim about going to see their dad and he's so sweet and caring about his little brother as he helps him pack even as he tries to stop him going. Then he tells him not to get drunk with his dad.

Billy: He's a mean son of a bitch when he's been loaded.
Tim: Billy - it's a signature, that's all I'm getting.

He then gives him money and says under no circumstances give the money to their father and Tim stares at his brother, says he understands and just gives him a really long look. It's kind of heart-breaking.

As Tim leaves, Billy reaches out and touches his brother's head in a gesture of affection.

Tim looks for his dad using the address on the last piece of correspondence received. It's clear that his father's shiftless.

Then he sees his father.

There's a look of longing on his face. He looks like a little kid.

When he hugs his father - he almost cries.

And his hand goes around to hug his dad tight.

Then the father and son are very awkward and when his father asks him to stay, he accepts immediately.

He hangs out with his father and you can see he's really happy. He's even happier when a friend of his father says: "You know he talks about you all the time."

"Really?" The look on his face is so pleased and surprised.

Then Riggins asks if he can stay at his dad's house for the night.

It's so clear that he's so happy to be hanging out with his dad ...

Then he hangs out with his dad and it's sweet although sad that manly men can only hang out if they drink alcohol together while calling people 'good people.'

Mr Riggins: Billy's all right, I know he hates me and I don't blame him. You were too young but he saw some things that I'm not too proud of
Tim: Dad I was ten, I wasn't blind.

Mr Riggins: You call your coach?
Tim: Yeah he's pretty rattled for missing two practices....... it's worth it though ....

Then he has a bet with his father that if he wins, his father will come to Dillon to watch him play.

Thing is, when his father wins, Mr Riggins is clearly very happy not to be coming to Dillon and Tim is devastated.

Tim: You know what, if you didn't want to come to the game you could have just said so. It would have been a lot easier
Mr Riggins: Listen to me, right ..... this bit ... I mean .... seeing you, you coming here, you hanging out it's been great and you're welcome here any time but me goin' to Dillon that's a whole different thing
Tim: Apparently
Mr Riggins: It is son, it is
Tim: Billy was right I shouldn't have come here in the first place. It was a mistake

Then when Tim gets home, Billy's all worried.

Then at the end, at the game, Billy comes to tell Tim to give him another ticket. Tim brushes him off but Billy says that their dad's there and Tim's face .... gah .....

It's also a moment of reconciliation with Billy. Gah.

This show is so good.
