Angels both black and dark (Angel in Chinese)
Chinese translations make me laugh.
In Chinese, 黑 hēi (pronounced hay) means black or dark. 暗 àn (pronounced unn or arn) means dark, dim, dull. As a compound word, 黑暗 hēi'àn means dark/dim. In English we say a dark horse, in Chinese they say 黑马 hēimǎ which literally translates as a black horse.
I saw that there appeared to be two translations of the series Angel. One of them is literally 《天使》 tiānshǐ which is the Chinese word for angel. The characters mean 'heavenly envoy'. Obviously other translators didn't agree with that translation because the more common translation is 《黑暗天使》 hēi'àn tiānshǐ which literally translates as "Dark Angel".
When I saw that, I immediately went: "Hmmmm. If they call 'Angel' 'Dark Angel', then what do they call 'Dark Angel'? :D
There are two names. One is 《末日黑天使》 mòrì hēi tiānshǐ which literally translates as 'Judgment Day/Dooms Day Black Angel'. The other name is 《末世黑天使》mòshì hēi tiānshǐ which literally translates as the Black Angel from the End of an Age/a phase.
