I just watched it. Given that I am largely in agreement with what dangermousie wrote in her review, I don't see the need to duplicate it

I am glad I typed up my thoughts before I read yours. I agree very much with you (I could go and quote almost every paragraph here and say "yeah, exactly"), but would never be able to word it like you did.

I just read your review which picked up a heap of other issues that I missed but have to admit I was going, huh about.
About barbie - I don't think that you were ever going to escape her. Barbie Cylon, her skimpy outfits and endless nudity is necessary to ratings and we'll have her forever - in fact we now have two of her, although I much prefer Gina as she is more interesting.
I agree that Baltar with the warhead has just added to his evergrowing list of crimes against humanity!!! In my view, he is even more despicable than a Cylon because he's supposed to be a human, a scientist and a doctor ... even a medical doctor ;) He's a genius, ok? You didn't know? He's also the 'jeweller' who made Adama's new Admiral pins ;)
I hope you don't mind, I linked to your review. :D

Some might say 'realistic' but I'm certainly glad my reality doesn't have people like that in it. :PI STILL cannot comment calmly on the ep. I've made a few humorous remarks elsewhere but.... and then I have to stop because once started, I suspect I'd burn up my new keyboard

Well said. This was a bleak, depressing episode. I expect BSG to be sad sometimes, but depressing is different from sad. Depressing implies there's no hope of change or growth. And I don't like the implied politics of the past two episodes. First in RS 2 they have Starbuck deifying a fascist who committed war crimes against her *own side* (ask Laird if he thinks the Fleet is safer with Cain or without her. You could try asking his spouse and kids, but they're dead) and now they're showing the star of the show acting like a thug and throttling a prisoner. And of course the 'peaceniks' are presented like idiots, rather than people who have been dicked around for the past six months and can't take it anymore (and as you say, given that Adama threatened to throw a reporter in the brig for asking him a question in Home Pt 1, I think we've established just how much information the Fleet as a whole is given). Mind you, the belligerents like Adar don't come off looking too good either. Oh yeah, Mr. Blustery Macho Posturing, send soldiers to

Well, I don't think any side has a moral "clean slate" -- certainly not the Cylons who gave us "The Farm" -- and I wonder how much of what was done by Baltar with the Cylon blood was with Roslin's consent? None at all, if I read this right -- she learns about what they've done only as she recovers

I really like Roslin, too. She's always struck me as being the moral compass of sorts, the sane voice of reason, humanity, civilisation and compassion. The dove to temper the hawk

oops typos... fixedkiaforrestJanuary 22 2006, 20:32:40 UTC
if as you say, there had been some explanation of the urgency of why she suddenly feels the danger NOW of allowing Sharon's baby to be born. The episode hinted at it very hazily - Baltar and the flashbacks.
Goooood points - we had so many 'flash & jumps' in this ep that it was like one giant Hand Wave : take this on the faith they're mocking in the next 'flash & jump'.... ::sigh:: I soooooooo want to get beyond the hideous disregard for women & their bodies & choices and be all 'intellectual' about it but I'm still mentally throwing up about it..... what a woosie I am.
Re: oops typos... fixedkoalathebearJanuary 22 2006, 20:50:03 UTC
Not woosie at all. I"m actually more startled by the people who seem unfussed by it all. :P
Perhaps I'll join you in wusshood.
By the way as to turnips ... have you ever seen this user icon before??? It was made by someone named lordessrenegade. Who knew turnips were also reviled in the Firefly-verse?
Your post was a lot calmer and more evenly written than mine over at RA, I learned more towards DM post , with a lot more four letter words thrown in. Aside from the Sharon/Helo parts of the episode (Helo was wonderful)I thought it was one of the least thought out and most objectionable of the BSG episodes to date. The most henious part to me was Adama actually contemplating doing something far worse then the men from the pegasus attempted to do to Sharon (I though it was totally out of character). I lost a lot of respect for the Character in this episode. I think the are writing Roslyn as bit*h. I will say one thing Mary must have had a puppy when reading the script for this episode as she is a staunch abortion rites supporter. Between DM's post and Jeff's post pretty much captured my feelings Bob
Two more things 1. Like Jeff I loved Helo in this episode, he was the one redeeming part of the whole thing. Kiaforest "neither is living a decent, honorable life that blesses others." this would be Helo. 2. Its amazing the feelings that Grace's portryal of Sharon porduces in people, you either totally love the character or you don't. I have seen very little inbetween. I think it might have to do with a particular persons experineces with and feelings about love. Bob
