whenever I discover a new fandom and go nuts ...

Someone removes me as a friend on livejournal ...

Which is odd because I really didn't think there were that many people still hanging around livejournal anymore ...

being scarily obsessive, livejournal

I worded it poorly.

It's not odd that people would remove because I've always been spammy (even pre-tumblr) about new interests and for instance, someone who added me for HP would be annoyed with all the Bones/Nikita/Pacific Rim postings and someone who added me for Pac Rim would have no interest in Mad Max stuff. Similarly the people who added me for SGA would have lost interest long ago because because it's been years since I posted about SGA so I'm used to people adding/removing me in relation to various fandoms, that was a pretty constant thing during the days of LJ being an active place for fandom.

I think when I said odd, I meant - I hadn't seen many signs of life at LJ recently and didn't think many people were still active to the point of adding/removing anyone on LJ. I haven't added anyone in months and months ...

Even with the tumblr tags, I really struggle to find the things I like so I find it easier to save things at LJ so I can find them again later ..so yeah, LJ is not tumblr but I can find things easier at LJ than I can at tumblr ... and I do try to put things under a cut so they're not toooo disruptive for the four people in the world who still use LJ ..

If you're using LJ as a storage space/archive, then several options for not spamming your f-list are:

1. storing a bunch of links to tumblr in a single LJ post.
2. grouping them in two or three posts by topic.
3. check the box down the bottom of the post that says "Do not add to friends page and RSS".

I'd say the quietness of LJ means people are going to be less tolerant of someone they don't talk to very often coming in and spamming them with something they're not interested in. (Or if, like me, they are interested, chances are they're not interested in seeing such posts on LJ. I use LJ for discussion and meta and opinions that I don't want to go viral on me with people bitching me out for not having the 'correct' opinion.)
