We saw Sherlock Holmes - I had really been looking forward to watching it. Alas, the film was extremely disappointing.
Robert Downey Jr's performance was very good. Jude Law as his faithful sidekick Dr. John Watson was also excellent and I don't even like Jude Law. Mark Strong as Lord Blackwood was a classic caricature of a villain. The women in the film were unmemorable and almost unnecessary. The movie had such potential - great special effects. London looked marvellous and one felt as though time travel was possible. Unfortunately the writing was really very weak - the storyline/plot was almost unintelligible and not particularly interesting. The relationships and characterisations were very thinly drawn so it was difficult to know and understand the characters. The film felt as though it had been written very hastily and rushed to the big screen. With some more time and fine-tuning of the storyline - it could have been an amazing film.
I actually fell asleep a few times during this film - I don't recall that having happened in a very long time! Falling asleep in a cinema is usually very unusual for me. My brother and his girlfriend also drifted off a few times because while there were a lot of explosions, punching and fighting - we were never really drawn in. This film would have been better on DVD or as a download - unfortunately it really wasn't worth going to the cinema for...
