As mentioned, for
unknown reasons, I have been reading "Tribute" by
Nora Roberts. I finally finished it yesterday and it really wasn't very good. Cut because I spoil.
1. The endless descriptions of Cilla's beauty/sexiness really started to grate on me.
2. The sex scenes were as devoury/gulpy/hungry/athletic as Roberts usually likes. The imagery that springs to mind is of feeding time at the zoo
3. Ford, like all Roberts heroes is PERFECT. He has no flaws! Roberts makes her heroines flawed, bratty, whiney, selfish, self-centred, self-absorbed and sometimes damned annoying - presumably for the sake of 'realism'. By contrast, her heroes are perfect. They have the perfect job, are rich, intellectual, hot, athletic, they can cook, they are excellent handymen, they are good with animals and children, they NEVER lose their temper except: (1) in defence of the heroine when she is in mortal danger; (2) at the heroine when she stupidly fails to see how right they are for each other and comes up with all sorts of emo reasons for why they can't be together.
4. I'm not sure whether anyone else felt a bit bad that Hennessy (although he was a rather bad SOB) got locked up for a crime he didn't commit and ended up killing himself when all along it was Cathy and her husband who were the culprits. *shrug*
All in all, a pretty weak book and far from one of Nora Roberts' best. She CAN write well, this just wasn't an example of that, unfortunately.
In other news, I completed the test for the first subject in my
project management diploma. I don't have my assignment yet but I got full marks for the exam portion of the assessment! I'm very pleased about that. I've enrolled in the next two subjects. They tried to discourage me from enrolling in two at once but I managed to persuade them that I really wanted to do it. It's self-study and I finished the first subject in less than four weeks when they give you 20 weeks - I wasn't even particularly diligent. If I am self-disciplined, I am certain I should be able to finish the next two subjects in a month as well, especially now I have a better idea what they'll be testing in the exams.
