Deepavali Highlights

Spent a lot of time at home with family for Deepavali this time. Doc-brother came down from Chennai. Amma had come in a few days before Deepavali to prepare the bakshanams.

After about 8 years, we bought fireworks, the display types and not the noisy ones. I must say Sri Kaliswari fireworks rocked and rollicked. It was really good stuff. You could literally see the ground and hand chakras doing extra miles of rotations. All the whistling rockets let out ear splitting whistles. Each flower-pot was trying to outshine the earlier one by letting out taller streams of fire-bubbles. Not a single firework went busss(t) :)

The Deepavali evening, we were off to a nearby dam - the Kelavarapalli dam, hoping to have a nice view of gushing waters after the bountiful monsoon. Enroute to the dam, we were arguing about, across which river this dam was built. Dad mentioned that it might not be a river after all. At the entrance of the dam, ticket issuer dropped a literal bomb shell. The dam was built across the the sewage water from Bangalore, a la Coovum. Surprisingly, there was not a hint of stench anywhere. But one could clearly see frothy masses floating a few metres away from the sluice gates, from where the water gushes out of the dam. Our plan of having boiled groundnuts on top of the dam had to be shelved, thanks to the pristine atmosphere. Dad did not want to stay at the place any longer. My brother and I took some hurried snaps before we started our journey back.

The next day was spent with a visit to Bangalore. We dropped by the Garuda mall. I don't understand what is with these malls cropping up everywhere. The only things they seem to give me in pain in my legs. Thanks to that trip and my earlier experience at malls in the US, I might not venture into a mall again unless absolutely necessary.
