Well I finally got my new computer yesterday. It came completely disassembled, but I managed to put the whole thing together without too much trouble. I'm actually kind of proud of myself for that. Now I feel like I could do this for money, someone gives me $4-600 and I buy them a computer and put it together for them. Mine was only 270 but I used my old hard drive and cd drive. Anyways now I can finally get back to recording our albums.
We had planned to do 3 open mics this week, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Tuesday's didn't happen because Ron tried to call people for it to find out the price but no one called him back. Bad business. Wednesday we went, it was pretty decent. We got there late, but from what I saw it was more on a poetry tip. The featured act was a gay writer/mc/poet/spoken word artist. He was good, so good that I could care less about his gayness. The host was a big-hipped poet named JaHipster. Believe me, the name fits very well. We did black thoughts a capella, then had the dj pick a random beat for us and we did Whole City Behind Us. I woulda had Ron do I Love You but his clown ass don't got the song memorized yet. What a clown. Me and him goin' fight if he don't start learning his songs. Thursday didn't happen, I got sick earlier in the day(fever and headache) then had an argument with "The Woman" right before I started getting ready to go. So needless to say my mood was shot.
The Nick(Nico, the producer) situation is looking better and better. He believes in us enough now that he wants to produce our album. And we talked about making a Justus League/Hieroglyphics type of crew, with one big crew and smaller crews and solo artists under its umbrella. Ron wants to name it Knights of the Round Table. I'm not sure I like the name, simply because it a common phrase. I'd rather the name be a little more original, so we can't get sued. So Ron told Nick he'll be in the crew if he wants to be, and Nick said "nah I want to be in The Union". Not much of a difference, but shows how much he's feeling our music. That's fine with me, except I want to do it on a almost provisional-type basis. Just to make sure things can work out before we make shit official. Like on some "let's see how this album goes before we say for sure."
So that's looking good, except we need some more artists. Its hard finding people, cuz there's a lot of people who rap(especially on this campus) but there's a lot of reasons why we don't consider them. We need decent mcs, first and foremost, who do music somewhat similar to ours, who we can work with(no huge egos), and who are fine being under us. The one cat we was thinking about, he's sometimes on a real gangsta tip as far as content. And I don't know how his ego'd work out. Shit will be easier once our albums are out. People will really see us doing shit and want to get down with us.
And speaking of albums, we'll just release the solo EPs as cheap promo's and the Free Labor Movement will be a full album on all original beats. That way we can really sell Free Labor Movement without worrying about jacked beats, except that the samples won't be cleared. So it'll probably still say "promo use only." This means we gotta get the solo's done soon, meaning I gotta get crackin on mine. I got most of it written, its just none of it cept one song is recorded. This has gone on long enough so peace for now.
