Okay. This has come up rather suddenly in the past few months, and I'm not sure what to do about it. I've decided that I would really like a corn snake as a pet, and I've done about as much research as I can do online.
But I have a problem now in that I would really like to have it as soon as possible, but that is starting to look like this time next year at the earliest. I would really like to start with a baby and raise it to adulthood, and corn snake babies hatch July-September. So, in theory, I could buy one this year shortly after I get home. My problem is that I think this might be too hasty. I really want to do a proper job raising it, which means doing some more research, talking to people who have corn snakes, buying the appropriate stuff to keep it, etc. It means knowing how much money and time it's going to take, and whether or not I can manage that while attending grad school. Even assuming that I could get all of that figured out before hatching season is over this year, there would still be the question of, can I actually afford it right now?
Mostly I've been assuming that I would have to wait until next year, because that would give me lots of time to figure all this out, to do my budgeting and to have a year to adjust to grad school so that I'll have a better idea of how to work caring for a pet into my schedule.
I really don't want to wait, though. :(
I feel a little weird about the whole thing, anyway, since up until April I had never in my life considered having a snake for a pet. I've never disliked snakes, but I'd never thought about them as a pet for me. So it's kind of sudden.
I dunno. :( :(
