Lace Books?

Hi all, I'm getting ready to start designing a cobweb shawl for my mom's 60th birthday (in about two and a half years, so I've got lots of time to play around). I'd like to either design something from traditional Shetland stitch patterns, or learn a lot more about lace than I currently know and design something from scratch, so I'm going to have to do lots of research to decide which option to pick. The university and public libraries in my town have a few stitch dictionaries, but nothing like what I need; I'm sure I can get stuff on interlibrary loan, or buy books if I have to (or if I think the book is really cool and can't resist).

So: if you were me, which lace books would you look into?
