I'm new to socks and trying out a pattern I found in my 2007 pattern a day calendar (July 4, for anyone that has it at home).
I'm fine with the cuff and heel flap, but the heel turning is not working at all.
There are 12 sts to work- row 1 says:
K8, K2tog, k1, turn (my note: this leaves 1 st unworked)
Row 2 says: Sl 1, p3, p2tog, p1, turn (which leaves 3 sts unworked and 7 sts ready to work after the turn)
The problem is: Row 3 says:
Sl 1, K4, K2tog, k2, turn. I can't see how to do that with the number of sts I have.
(the next instruction says: Continue working heel, having one more st before decreasing on each row until there are 6sts)
Can anyone who has done socks give some advice? I am either doing something wrong or the pattern is written incorrectly.
Thank you in advance.
ETA: I got a reply back from the pattern author:
Suzette,
I'm sorry for the confusion with the pattern, and the fault is all
mine. What I don't understand is how, after all this time, it hasn't
been brought to my attention. I've received many e-mails thanking me
for the pattern and letting me know how well it worked for them!
At any rate, I've discovered a very easy way to turn a sock heel
which should work for you. Try this on the 12 heel stitches:
Row 1: K1, K2 tbl, K6, K2tog , K1
Row 2: Purl 10
Row 3: K1, K2 tbl, K4, K2tog , K1
Row 4: Purl across
Row 5: K1, K2 tbl, K2, K2tog , K1
Row 6: Purl
Row 7: K1, K2 tbl, , K2tog , K1
Row 8: Purl - 4 stitches remain
You will then be ready to pick up the gusset stitches and continue on
with the remainder of the pattern.
Again ... my sincere apologies!
