Reading charts
I'm a newbie at knitting. I've knitted a couple of things, following patterns, but not a chart. I'm a cross-stitcher at heart, and so I automatically want to follow a knitting chart as I would a cross-stitch one. But I'm confused.
This is the chart.
(blank squares are purl, ones with dots are knit)
Where do I start? I understand I start on row 1, but do I start in the left corner and work to the right, or right corner and work to the left? And when I go onto row 2, where do I start it? Do I start all rows on the same side? Or do I alternate?
