Marigold's Recommendations

Feb 18, 2007 15:12

Greetings readers of marigoldg's Recommendations! You may count yourselves among the blessed and golden as, this week I shall once again be selecting Magnificent and appropriate reading material for you.

I trust therefore, that you will immediately stop whatever unimportant tasks you are about, cancel all previous engagements and, if you were due to go to work or school, phone in sick at once, in order to complete this reading directive with due haste.

Should there be any complaints resulting from this behaviour, please refer all grievances to Moi! My phone number is Shire 0000000001.

Are we ready? Right! The first story you have to read is "Moments in Time" by Larner.(This was actually recommended to my by GreyWonderer - or possibly Errol - it's hard to tell). It is a story which features Merry (the most excellentest hobbit of all time) and gives a detailed description of his marriage to Estella Bolger. But it may not be quite what you think. Nevertheless, you will have to read it to find out as I have no intention of telling the whole story here as that would just be silly - yes it would.

You can find the story right here . So off you go and then come back for my second recommendation.

Finished? Good wasn't it!

Now, then for story number 2, I have chosen something a little out of the ordinary. I am told that I need to put a warning on it - so here goes:

DEATH WARNING!

Right! Happy now?

Here goes. This is a beautifully written series of three droubles by mordelhin, all from Merry's pov - which is of course the best pov anyone can wish for. I particularly liked this because, although the ending is rather AU, the writing is true to Tolkien and, much as I love our errant colonial cousins, it is written in Tolkien's English.

Hurry and read it right here

As to my challenging quiz, I regret to say that everyone failed and consequently you will all have to stay for detention on Wednesday night and may even have to miss pudding!

As a consequence of your dismal failure, I have decided to award the awesome prize to greywonderer by virtue of her getting every single answer completely wrong. Of course, other people got all the questions wrong too, but hers were wronger than most.

Her prize is to make tea for me on the 20th September and she should report for duty at my house at 4 o'clock prompt! (PS - no need to bring Errol).

Yours truly,
K. M. The Mag

PS Don't forget to contact llinos she of little brain, for your starter for the next Tale Challenge - No. 38. For details refer to marigoldg's journal.
