Healing Shawls - Addendum

Jan 27, 2006 09:31

Thanks to everybody who has shown interest. Behind the cut is an email I received from Nancy (my stepmom) related to your questions. Also, the mailing address is listed for those of you who decide to send something.

The shawls are given out to cancer survivors at the Morristown Relay For Life on May 19-20, 2006 (an overnight event) where we honor cancer survivors and celebrate the grand team fundraising effort that has taken place over the previous several months. It is a huge community rally/relay where we raised $195,000 last year and honored over 100 cancer survivors. We hope to honor over 150 cancer survivors this year. To be fair, we like our special gifts to be exactly uniform at least in design. Over the last two relay events one volunteer hand made craft gifts for each survivor and they were all uniform at least in design. Since the shawl has been done before in other parts of the country exactly like this, we chose to mimic success.

As far as the type of yarn that is used, please go ahead and chose another type of yarn if you feel it is more user friendly and let us know what kind you are choosing. We certainly will try it out ourselves. We do all knit stitch for uniformity so no one shawl will be better than another. We do have less talented knitters doing their best to help out and doing anything more difficult would be unfair to them.

As long as the shawl is 20ish by 80ish and is all knit - that will be fine.
I move on to a different color shawl to prevent boredom myself. I have done red, turquoise and purple so far.
It keeps me out of trouble at night and away from the refrigerator!

Finished shawls should be mailed to:

Mr. Paul Dudek, Director Special Events
The American Cancer Society
669 Littleton Road
Parsippany, NJ 07054

Thanks so much for your suggestions and your interest. We so much appreciate your thoughts.

Nancy
