I am relieved to tell you that final exams are final(ly) over!
Last night was beerknit, with the
bitchybees! Which came just in time. I really needed a beerknit after all the crazyness of the last few weeks.
Today I've been enjoying some sewing (I honestly dreamed of sewing and knitting while I was studying... I kept telling myself to wait, I'll have time for this stuff during my 4 months off from school!)
I made a springy top....
and some slippers....
Both of these are my own designs. The "pattern" for the top was drawn on and cut out of newspaper, and the slipper pattern was done on old math homework (satisfying)! I must admit, I am quite pleased with myself over these designs. Although, the slippers weren't exactly as great as I imagined. I need to tweak the design a bit, throw in some finishing, and proper non-slip soles would be good.
I normally think of myself as a knitter, not a sewer (ok, is that the right spelling?, it looks like I'm talking about drainage systems), but I guess I have assimilated some skill and enjoyment of sewing from my mom along the way (she is a quilter & sewer). Ever since I was little I hated using patterns. I know I have sewn some stuff from real patterns, but as a girl I remember trying to draw out my own designs, and then make them. Usually this was a failure, my poor mother having to waste precious stash on me! When I think about it, I have been imagining up ways to "make that myself" since as far back as I can remember.
Don't worry, I have some knitting to show you too! During my studies, on my Babylon 5 breaks, I've been keeping up with some simple charity knitting... (If I don't knit while watching movies or shows, I twiddle my thumbs. Literally! I didn't even realize I did that until a non-knitter friend mentioned it one day.)
Anyways here they are...
A freeform swirl toque,
A baby bear toque,
An i-cord toque,
That's my great-grandmothers handiwork in the background. I this is a quilt that she made for my mother when she was a girl. Apparently, granny forgot to remove one single pin, and my mom woke up to a pin in her bum one night! Yikes!
I am so glad this semester is over! I was really beginning to feel burnt out, and I knew I needed to take some time off from school. This spring, and summer I am going to work, and craft, and hopefully when September rolls around my brain will be ready for another challenge. Who knows? I might try for work at the LYS this summer!
Here is a list of things I'm looking forward to these next 4 months:
