Clowns Taste Funny

glove_puppet  and I have sampled so many delights of local cuisine this week that I think I may have to do a whole week of rice and tuna, in order to recover.  We started with a hedge veg expedition, whose haul included local apples, melon, strawberries and raspberries, yellow beans, delicious tomatoes and goats cheese.  Saturday evening we had scallops wrapped in bacon from a diver friend of mine.  We had a curry with the Guernsey LRP crew on Sunday evening.  Monday, we went to St Malo for the afternoon and glove_puppet insisted on dragging me to the Hypermarket, where we bought all manner of alcoholic and non-alcoholic delights.  Tuesday glove_puppet made a goats cheese brushetta (see picture above), followed by Gressingham duck breasts on a bed of yellow beans.  Wednesday I did crab cakes with rocket salad.  Thursday we had fish and chips on the sea wall, somehow they always taste better that way.

Friday was the biggest treat. We went to the Auberge for dinner (http://www.theauberge.gg/)
We had a smoked chicken, foie gras and shitake terrine for starter and seared tuna.  Monkfish for the main and rabbit wrapped in parma ham.  For pudding a selection of strawberry and white chocolate mousses and deep fried lemongrass icecream with passion fruit tart, because we needed to know how.  It was all utterly delicious and the atmosphere wasn't at all stuffy for somewhere serving such superb food.

On Saturday morning we went to my local farmers market to buy assorted bits and pieces for lunch and dinner, including madeiran bread, freshly baked on a charcoal oven, veal escalopes and pink fir apple potatoes, which are apparently in glove_puppet's top five potato varieties.  We also had a couple of gourmet picnics, various continental and english breakfast and a selection of cocktail inventions throughout the week.
Mmmm.... Guernsey tastes delicious!
