My neighborhood has lots of characters in it. Capital c Characters. I was waiting for the bus this morning, and a man with a grocery cart filled with soda bottles crossed the street from the Gujar Mart. He was wearing a zip-up black hoodie sweatshirt, which was mostly unzipped to show his bare chest & about 7 necklaces of the huge-teeth-and-beads variety. He looks to be about 30, in good shape, with some long nappy hair that's bordering on out of control, but not so dirty that you want to run away. You just want to admire it from a distance.
Dude: What's happening, man?
Knile: Not much.
D: What year are you? (NB: I guess the backpack gave it away)
K: Second year in grad school.
D: Know anybody that doesn't want to go home this summer? I know some people who'd like to get married for business...
K: Don't think so, but I'll keep my ears open
D: You know Windex? How it works on glass? Well, that's my e-mail address. It works on glass at hotmail dot com.
K: Nice, nice
D: Because something's going to go down, and this guy, he's going to light a candle somewhere and I don't want to be here for it, you know? So let me know.
K: Alright...
And with that, he went north on Mt Hope, eating his Fritos.
