Is there value to Art?

I brought my mum and dad to the great Thai food zhi cha below Sheng Shiong shopping centre..
There was a man with exceptional skills in the art of paper cutting.
As we all know, paper cutting is a dying art liow, not many people in China do that nowadays.. and this guy is good. He claimed to be one of the 32 famous artists from China... based in Shanghai. I thought he's just another phoney with the sale pieces presumbly done by machine. I was wrong...
He picked up a piece of paper and earnestly volunteered to cut for free - my brother's zodiac sign - the Horse. He does it with such flawless skills.. that we were impressed.

The craftsman put together the freshly cut horse with all the zodiacs of my brother's family members, laminated the card sized work, and charged him $3 token fee...

Bro was impressed, and opted to get one of A3 size Fu Lu Shou cutting, beautifully done and framed up. The craftsman quoted $60 for that framed piece. But this time, mum thought Bro was going beyond sanity... she kept insisting that its a waste of money, and that there's no point buying and putting at home coz its a waste of space, and besides its useless. That's my mum!
My bro paid $60 to the man.
So she argued with my bro and insist that my bro bargain down the price from $60 (as the craftsman has stated) to $50. They had created such a scene that the craftsman... who was already packing the frame , took out the $60 and exclaimed ' I don't understand why your mum doesn't get it'.
He would rather not sell and be raped of his dignity.....

Makes me wonder.. do we attach a price to our art pieces and designs?
Every piece of work we do as artists, have emotional value.. since after all, it is from our creative side of the mind, and after all, no matter how shitty it may look, its still after all, our creation, something that was oozed from heart and mind and transformed into something tangible..
How do we price our art? Is there a value to it? Do we bargain down the price tag we attached to our artwork?

Emotional value attached to our art is priceless.
