Even God was entitled to a day of rest

So yesterday was my day of doing absolutely nothing. I shuffled my schedule and scheduled absolutely nothing to do. And, I have to admit -- it was brilliant.

Spent most of the morning in bed, under the covers, staring at the ceiling. Ordinarily, such a description would imply, say, a mental institution or extreme poverty coupled witha manic condition. However, the lack of restraints and not smelling like a sewer bring us back to a voluntary moment of stillness. It is amazing how often we are always moving - likely, this is the first still, reflective, almost-zen-like moment of the new millenium for me.

After some breakfast of, something obviously insignificant if I can't remember, I took in the first six episodes of Serial Experiments Lain. After starting to become numb to the heavy philosophical, mental and religious themes that saturate the piece, I moved on to, surprisingly, playing the piano.

Lucky, my siblings print out reams of anime sheet music: everything from Cowboy Bebop to Ghost in the Shell to Final Fantasy. I tried my unpracticed hand at Piano Bar again, moving swiftly into nine other pieces that I found in a massive, criss-crossed pile. The mornings were always best to play for me: the drowsiness of sleep and the edge of wakefulness was always most acute then.

A quick meal again (in total, something like seven mini-meals were consumed through the day) and then the marathon of Lain watching continued and concluded. Previously, I've only been able to watch the first 6 episodes and always become sidetracked; this time, the entire series was finished and, it must be said, I love Lain again. The initial worries were that it would be one of those things that you remember as being as awesome, but then when you see it again, somehow the magic has gone (damn, you, Thundercats!!).

Evening fell quickly and brought with it the start of reading of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. Yes, reading. But not the book, oh no, it was downloaded in a torrent along with 68 other top books of all time. The genre changing Blade Runner is based on it and everyone from the Wachoski brothers (the Matrix, etc) have it listed as sources they drew from. Time to found out what all the fuss is about.

The night featured a nice Chinese New Years dinner that I could have nearly none of (I was stuck with a microwave veggie lasagna) which then quickly shuffled into watching the new season of *fanfare, please* Top Gear. Followers will know that, one of the hosts was involved in a horrific car crash involving a jet-powered car. He has recovered now, which explains the massive delay of the show's taping, and also showed the video of the accident during the show. It was unsettling.

And to conclude this, as duxxie would put it, Melvin-style post, the evening was capped off with a massive update of my website. Hopefully all the changes pan out in both FF and IE and hopefully the flash videos download fast enough - they're all encoded to maximum quality so I fear it may be slightly slow...

And I'm spent.
