The Chosen

So I finished reading Chaim Potok's The Chosen last night and was so terribly disappointed that I still feel the need to vent a bit. Everyone I talked to LOVES this book, so I read it. And I was good up until I finished it. Then I sat with it a bit, reread a few sections. And then I decided I didn't like the ending at all. It feels like ... pop lit, which isn't a bad thing. But it's not the deep and meaningful book that certain people were telling me it was.

There are people in my life who find books like The Chosen serious and deep works of art, and I hate to contradict them. Because I'm not nearly well-read enough to determine what is and is not a "serious and deep work of art". But that book had no mental exercise in it for me. Maybe I totally missed the point. I do that. A lot.

Someone tell me if they enjoyed The Chosen?

book, literature, snobbery
