In the Home Stretch

3 days of class...count 'em...3 days...

Things are still stressful, but I'm handling it okay. Making progress on both yearbooks, wrapping up each class, preparing final exam study guides, keeping up with misc stuff like today's awards ceremony, stuff like that.

Let me explain something first: This is a small school but the 11th and 12th grades are split into advanced and regular classes. I teach the regular level English/Lit. I always finish off the year teaching Lord of the Rings, using the movies instead of the books. It's a fun way to fill the last few weeks of class, and the kids find out that there's more depth to Tolkien's works than just what meets the eye. So in showing the movies, I utilize a projector that hooks up to my dvd player, and I show the movies on my whiteboard. Mucho better than trying to reserve a TV from the library for 5 weeks, not to mention the difference in viewing a 19 inch TV screen as opposed to a widescreen projection that's almost half the size of my whiteboard...

Anyways, we watched the last 30 minutes of Return of the King this morning. When we finished, the kids moved their desks back into position, and one particular student wasn't paying attention. He slung his chair around...and the leg was caught on the projector cord. It pulled the projector off the table. The light is blown, that much I know, but I won't know what else might be permanently damaged until I get a new light bulb and can test it.

I let the headmaster and secretary know, but I'd be willing to lay odds that the student won't be held responsible.

In more positive news, Lifetime as picked up more episodes of Blood Ties. Yay Lifetime!

Not so positive news: I've heard a rumor that Sci-Fi is not going to renew The Dresden Files. This is NOT good. I'll post more when I know more.
