[Was he making fun of him? Of course he knew what a phone was, even if he preferred not to bother with them. Putting that aside, he sort of reminded him of someone he knew back home. It wasn't necessarily a compliment, but it was a matter of how one looked at it, he supposed.

He was straightforward and charismatic, even speaking with a complete stranger, which meant that Takumi was feeling inadequate in comparison already. He didn't deal well with guys like that.

But going back to the topic at hand, this thing wasn't exactly a phone? Well, that sort of detail wasn't important, but he mentioned replacements as well. It didn't sound like he was the one responsible for giving him this device, which was both a relief and a disappointment, but maybe he was knowledgeable enough to give him the answers he needed.]

Th-This wasn't... mine. B-Before I realized, it was in my p-pocket, so...

[He didn't even bother giving his name in return.]

Well, it's yours to keep now! Or at least, it should be. [He may be able to hear the clicks of a few buttons on Takuto's end.] If you mess around on the menu enough, you should come up with the trainer profile - you'll be able to tell that it's yours from that. [There's a pause on his end as he adds an afterthought:] You shouldn't worry too much! This place is pretty strange, after all.

[It was that strange, but this guy was totally fine with it all? He was going on about things that Takumi didn't understand-- or particularly care about- in the slightest. He wasn't very good with cell phones, so finding that profile would probably be a hassle. Even if he managed, however, there was no reason for this thing to be his.

He was silent for a moment. There were a million questions he wanted answered, but... He probably couldn't hold a conversation long enough, not like this with some complete stranger. It was a miracle the line was still connected, even now. Unsure of how long his own nerves would hold out, he decided to start with the biggest and most important question:]

Wh-What is this place?

[And he probably asked it entirely too vaguely.]

You're in the Johto right now. [a pause] If your world has cellphones, then I guess it's safe to assume that you had video games too? Anyway, you're in one right now, as hard as it is to believe! If you've ever heard of Pokémon and if you've ever played it, you'll definitely have an advantage here. Otherwise... There should be a manual in the backpack they give you! [... Takuto can be quite talkative, sorry Takumi!]

[Even with the proof all around him, it sure sounded like this guy was just treating him like an idiot. Of course, Takumi had gotten the impression that he had entered a children's video game, but he was hoping that it would be understood that was was trying to figure out why or... more importantly, how. Though he was generally aware that it was his own fault for being unable to convey it properly, it still irritated him to have to struggle further for the appropriate results.

But, nonetheless, he fished for the manual that was mentioned just in case, noting some of the other supplies in the process... Clothes of some sort? He'd worry about it later. For now he held up the little book with a questioning look on his face to ascertain that it was the right thing.]

[He shook his head at that, obviously confused, but he also didn't really care about seeing this guy's pet. Actually, it looked more like a mascot character from some anime than it did an animal, but he did say it would look strange, didn't he? Nevertheless, he decided to double-check around him to be sure, but... There was nothing.]

[Takumi wanted to look away at once; he didn't like to be made fun of, and so blatantly at that... He was partially embarrassed with himself, but he couldn't help but react in such a way.

But his eyes were currently glued to the fish, and hearing that latter statement... He was a little too concerned to let out his frustration. He did hear that right, didn't he? Supposed to protect him? From what...? And this guy thought that was funny for some reason!? Wh-What the hell...]

P-Protect me...? This is-? Wh-Why? What's... in this place...?

They're called Pokémon! That one is tamed, but the ones you encounter when you leave the city are all wild. [a pause] You're supposed to battle with them, and by doing so, they'll level up and grow stronger.

Without mine, I probably wouldn't have been able to get as far as I did! They're a lot stronger than they look. [...but the fish was just flopping there, even for Takuto it was a little hard to believe.]
