First off, via
robin_d_laws,
Ebert and Roeper have left At The Movies. I'm hoping that Ebert (and Roeper, for that matter) returns to some sort of audio and / or televised movie criticism, as I really like podcastable content, and NPR's Movies podcast is something of a mixed bag. Given that my commute has changed appreciably, however, my love for podcasts may dissipate some.
On the borderline TMI front, I ended up in the hospital on Sunday for rehydration and anti-nausea medication after [a stomach bug | food poisoning] hit me hard that morning. I credit my mother with teaching me how to accurately judge when I should seek medical attention. I am fine, although I'll be eating mostly bland foods for a few more days.
I did get to see The Dark Knight before I was laid up, however, and whoa nelly, it was awesome. Better than Batman Begins, even if folks like
crisper point out some
legitimate (relatively spoiler-free) gripes. Ledger quite possibly deserves the Oscar buzz he's been getting. Oldman and Eckhart were solid-bordering-on-brilliant, and Freeman and Caine delivered what you'd expect from Freeman and Caine. I wasn't entirely taken with Gyllenhaal's performance, though I certainly thought it was several steps up from Holmes's; pity, as I'm generally a big fan of Maggie's. (Need I actually say that Bale delivered, once again, a stellar performance as Batman, albeit somewhat overshadowed by the awesome all around? Well, he did.)
Well, not working from home today, so I must away.
