On Sunday August 23rd, my musical life pretty much came full circle. Well, that's a bit of a stretch, but you get the idea! I went to go see mother fucking Blink 182 at the Molson Amphitheatre. Blink has been one of the biggest musical inspirations in my life. Yes, they're just another pop-punk band that play three chord songs. But they made a significant impact on my life during my teenage years and basically are the sole reason why I listen to the music I do today. They were a gateway drug.
When I heard that the guys were back together, I couldn't be more happier. A new Blink album and possibly some shows!? I still listen to old blink songs despite the fact I gave up on pop-punk a long time ago. I'm a true fan of these guys and will never get tired of the material they put out. ON TO THE SHOW.
Tuan and Antina were kind enough to join me for the show. We arrived around 6:30pm to catch a bit of Chester French. I don't have much to say about these guys. I didn't like them which means they suck. Hah.
Taking Back Sunday was up next and I was somewhat looking forward to their set so that I could sing a long to some of their old songs. AKA the John Nolan era of TBS. TBS put on a horrible show IMO. They lacked energy and flare. I was completely dissapointed. Not to mention they had two new members, both who sing and play guitar bringing the total number of guitar players in the band to THREE. Overkill for a pop rock band. Anyways it was a rather boring set, with the exception of a few songs I knew.
Weezer was up next. I didn't know what to expect from these guys. I've never really got into them but I've always enjoyed their singles. They put on a great show! Rivers was pretty funny and they sounded very good live. So good, that I went and checked out their Blue Album which they played five songs from. A lot considering that was the first album they put out. They put on a good show and the crowd really enjoyed them. They were the first band that everyone stood for.
THEN IT WAS TIME. I was actually nervous and had no idea what to expect. All those years of watching live videos of blink would fade away as I was about to see them LIVE in real life. WOOT. Blink came on and started off with DUMPWEED. It was awesome. They sounded pretty good for the most part. Mark and Travis were spot-on and Tom was....well Tom is Tom. I thoroughly enjoyed their set, they played 18 songs or so? A pretty damn long set and covered most of my favourites! It was such a fun night. I sang along throughout the entire night and proved to Antina and Tuan how big of a blink fan i was and still am! It was a nostalgic night for me and it brought back so many memories of highschool and elementary school. What a great show.
COMPLAINTS. Okay, I officially hate TEENAGERS. Actually not teenagers, but teenagers who have just turned 19 and can drink. My goodness, these girls behind us were absolutely horrible. Smoking and drinking and just making a mess everywhere. I wanted to punch them all in the face. Thank god they got macked on by some 30 year old dude and moved. I was fuming. Spilled beer on us and tossed around their cigarette ashes like no tomorrow. Stupid bitches, I hope you all burn in hell.
Sorry about that, they were just really annoying and stupid. Haha! Otherwise it was a great night. A night to remember that's for sure!
Lots of shows coming up: THRICE, METRIC AND OMGGGG MASTODON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
