three nights ago on tuesday feb 17th i went to go check out one of the heaviest bands i've followed to date. let's get into the show...
got to the phoenix and forgotten that i had been there before. woops. line up was brutal, was not expecting it to be that long. we didn't even line up right away, waited in the car for a bit. ended up lining up for prob more than 30 minutes which is too long in my books. especially in the freezing cold.
got into the club and the faceless were already on. wasn't too bad, they reminded me a lot of BTBAM. didn't pay much attention to their set.
next, we had cynic on stage. this band is huge. lots of ppl were there to see them and they are legends in the underground scene. they are reallllllly out there in terms of their sound. definitely nothing i have heard of before. their singer constantly used effects in his vocals and their music is really progressive with a bit of a hard rock edge. i guess you can say they were a bit out of place. enjoyed their set somewhat, but def wanted the headliner to hit the stage.
NEXT UP, MESHUGGAH. i discovered that their name means CRAZY in hebrew. what a bad ass name. anyways these guys were the real deal. they were so fucking heavy. holy shit. 8 string guitars gives you an amazing live sound. they were CRAZY. their set was so tight too. incredibly on the ball in terms of the accuracy of their playing and a very entertaining set. normally, synchronized head banging is pretty lame for any band. but for these swedish monsters, the headbanging in sync with each other was pretty bad-ass. they also played one of the longest sets ive ever witnessed for a club show. they played for almost an hour and a half. so godly for a band playing songs that are 5-7 minutes on average and 200BPM. well maybe not 200, but fast shit! played all my favourite songs and was one of the better shows i've been to recently.
fun times. check out meshuggah.
