Directions and method: Steak sammiches!
Left over flank steak, cheddar, miracle whip, mustard, bread, and salt.

Normally I would use mayo and not miracle whip, but there was no mayo to be had. I grew up eating miracle whip so it's not the biggest deal in the world to me.

(note about the bread: this is actually Cobs Bread GI bread which is much lower in carbs than most bread. I love it, it's nice and fluffy. Mom and dad say that it lasts at least a couple of days in the cupboard too.)

I am at mom and dad's house for a doctor's appointment. Dad had a craving for flank steak so that's what we had with prawns, potatoes, and a salad for dinner last night. The steak was marinated with a bit of apple juice, soya sauce, garlic, and lemon juice. Dad marinated it for six hours, but as I am asking him right now what he used in the marinate he says it needs to be marinated for four hours for sure. Most of his marinades for steak are some combination of these types of ingredients, not that he marinates steak very often anymore. Usually we end up having ribeye (my favourite!) and he and mom are steak purists.

They always buy the "easy" cheese slices. I always buy the bricks of cheese because they're more cost effective, but I guess there comes a point in your life where you're too lazy to slice your cheese off the brick? I suspect it happens right around the time retirement happens because, up until that point, I remember them always having bricks of cheese. These days bricks of cheese at their house meet horrible, untimely deaths. If the cheese is lucky it's possible that I end up catching it before it's completely covered in mold. When this happens I pet it and love it and take it home with me. Right now I am presently mourning a giant hunk of asiago with brown mold all over the outside of it. I may have to sneak it home with me and see if it can't be revived.

I love that mom's oven has two broil settings. With mine I just turn the dial to "broil" and go at it. Yes I ate "lunch" at 10 in the morning. I was hungry!

Melllllllltyyyyyyyyy!

The end result got a little squished when I cut into it.

Still good. Must have been because dad made himself steak sandwiches for lunch, too!
(Those plates? The ones with the blue flowers on them? Are older than I am.)
