Finally, after several weeks of tiresome planning, they're making progress. The plans will be finalized soon, and then the towers will go up. And anyone who tries to stop that from happening will be taken care of.

That is, in fact, the reason for Tess' visit. To help Zod plan for security measures to keep unwelcome guests away from their precious ( Read more... )

"Oh, good. I'd hate for you to think this is the only business I have to deal with." And there's the sarcasm he's been missing. Supposedly.

And here's some more. "Yes, one the benefits of my association is that I know how to read."

There she is.

"Of course not. It's not as if saving the world needs to be your top priority." And there's some sarcasm of his own.

"Glad to hear it. Your inability to read would be a bit of an inconvenience, I think."

"And what makes you think my other business isn't connected?" Tess counters. "Just because you're not involved?"

He raises his eyebrows and only pauses for a moment before replying. "If I'm not involved, I don't see why I need to know what it's connected to. And there really shouldn't be reason for me to care. Should there?"

"No, but it might prevent you from making baseless sarcastic comments in the future," she replies oh so neutrally.

"Well, I am still learning. You can't expect me to fully master the art of sarcasm so soon, can you?" He turns back to his window after he speaks, watching their surroundings as they stream past.

Tess gives him an amused, but mildly incredulous, look. "You mean I'm not supposed to expect perfection?" She fishes around in her coat pocket for her PDA. "This is another one for posterity."

He turns back to her with a small smile. "All right, Tess. When it comes to sarcasm, I'll let you expect only near perfection. Because I'm actually in a good mood today."

Give Tess a moment; she actually is making a note of it. Once her PDA has been stowed back in her pocket, she gives him a brief glance.

"Then I should be thanking my lucky stars. You're near insufferable when you're not, you know."

"Am I?" he asks with amusement. "Well, you're not always a ray of sunshine yourself."

"Yes, you are. And careful," she warns, half seriously, "or I'll slap a slander suit on you so fast it'll make your head spin."

Tess smiles. "I'm just a yellow ray of sunshine, so clearly, you're immune."

"Well, I wouldn't want that," he says, raising an eyebrow.

His smile widens slightly after that last comment. "Are you certain you're not a red ray of sunshine, Tess?"

It would, actually, be a frivolous use of a fairly non-litigious nature, so the Major is likely safe.

Her smile fades, just a little. "I really don't think so."

His smile fades slightly as well. "Well, seeing as we've already established that you have your moments of not being any sort of ray of sunshine at all, I don't see how it much matters what color that ray is."

"It doesn't," Tess agrees, staring out her window again. And hopefully, they'll make the rest of the trip in silence.

As the lady wishes. Zod isn't all that keen on continuing the conversation himself, actually. It seems to be taking a more contemplative turn, and he'd hate for it to be misinterpreted.

So his eyes leave her once more, and he stares out his window without speaking.
