Did you vote?
I'm registered in Benton county, Arkansas even though I haven't lived there since 2008. I could have requested an absentee ballot, but I didn't.
I'll be recording an interview with someone today whose top priority for the day is to vote. That's cool. I don't think it makes things any worse to participate in the ritual. That said, here's a snippet from Jim Kunstler's latest blog post:
It's really too late for both parties. They're unreformable. They've squandered their legitimacy just as the US enters the fat heart of the long emergency. Neither of them have a plan, or even a single idea that isn't a dodge or a grift. Both parties tout a "recovery" that is just a cover story for accounting chicanery and statistical lies aimed at concealing the criminally-engineered national bankruptcy that they presided over in split shifts. Both parties are overwhelmingly made up of bagmen for the companies that looted America.
And weighing in on behalf of the system is David Brin:
I have tried for 10 years to come up with silver bullets that might wake up decent conservatives from their fevered delusion -- that their movement has not been hijacked by monsters. It seems hopeless. They will not hear the sound of Barry Goldwater, spinning in his grave.
So let me put it this way. It is up to moderates... moderate and pragmatic, dedicated to a calm America, where negotiation is still possible... to make a difference in this election. For you all to realize that it is time to be militantly moderate! And, this decade (maybe not the next one!) that means punishing the party that is inarguably insane. The delirious ones on the right.
So there you have it. Jim Kunstler says both parties are irredeemable, and David Brin says, maybe, but one of them is certifiably insane, so support the party that isn't foaming at the mouth.
