Day 08 - A show everyone should watch
This sounds kind of similar to Day 2 doesn't it? I mean, if I think more people should be watching a show, wouldn't it stand to reason that I think everyone should be watching it? Or is Day 2 saying that I should choose a show more people should watch, but not everyone for Cliff's sake?
I will make the assumption that they were going after two different things on these two days, so I won't answer "Burn Notice" this time around. A show everyone should watch...hmmm...how about The Young Ones? It was a staple of my junior and senior years of high school, and I still love the show today. While I could have done without the majority of Alexei Sayle's characters and some of the tangential scenes killed the flow of the show, The Young Ones was spot on almost all of the time.
Sure, like The Flying Circus, it could fall flat from time to time. But its really good episodes are a laugh riot. Their music segments were a welcome treat, too. I am pretty pissed that they had to cut the Dylan cover (featuring one Stewart Copeland on drums) from the DVD box set. Stupid royalties! Kudos to The Damned for choosing to write a song specifically for the episode on which they were appearing (Nasty). Madness and Motorhead also made appearances. Plus it brought us all the timeless "Doctor Martin's Boots" song - one of Alexie's few bright points.
So, everyone, are you listening? Watch The Young Ones. I recommend Sick, Summer Holiday, Bambi and Nasty in particular. They're all good, though, so you can't go wrong with whatever you choose.
