Car

So I took my car to the shop yesterday to get the brakes fixed, because I was definitely into the "metal on metal" phase of the brake wearing process. That's a good indication of needing to get new brakes.

I told them to fix the horn too, or at least disconnect it so that the radio would work.

Well, they called me this morning and said "We have an estimate for everything you asked for plus all the things we think you should probably have done to your car."

She then started listing all the things off. Oil leak, transmission fluid leak, coolant leak, bad muffler, bad radiator, worn tires, blah blah blah on and on.

I interrupted her and said "OK, here's the deal. My car is 17 years old and I'm trying to drive it into the ground. If you fix all of these things it's going to make it a lot harder, and I know everything you're saying is going to cost WAY too much anyway."

Her: "Oh I definitely didn't expect you to have us fix all of these, but we definitely think that you should take care of some of them."

Me: "Well, let's just say we fix everything on the list. How much will it be?"

Her: "About $3400."

Me: "Just fix the brakes and get the radio working."

So, anyway, I have new brakes and my radio works. My roommate and I ordered pizza and I went and picked it up just so I could enjoy Stevie Wonder in my car again. It was glorious. Back to the car: I think I bought a few more months, and then I'll definitely have to actually buy a vehicle. I'm hoping I can wait until I get the raise before I have to do it. I really don't care if my car is a piece of shit or not, so I'm not in a hurry. If it drives, it's wonderful. Brakes and a radio are just bonus! Fixing all that other stuff goes down as "luxuries" in my book.

We had a bunch of drama with our basketball coach for the last few days! NC State was trying to hire him. By yesterday it was looking bleak, and today the radio stations in Raleigh were reporting that he had signed a contract. Then, he released a statement this evening saying that wasn't true at all and he was staying here. I know none of you care, so I won't go into anymore details than that. Suffice it to say that the last two days have been the least productive work days of my life.

I found out that there is a brewery literally less than 150 yards from my house. They have tours on Saturday afternoons. Add those two things up and you get Kenny within walking distance of free beer. I think I'm going to go this Saturday.

I broke one of my two wine glasses last night.
