The guidebook recommends to the passengers of the Luang Prabang bus to stock up on nausea bags not because of the views, but because of the hairpin bends and potholes. But the gorgeous views also not always suggest the most pleasant thoughts.

Лес остался только на самых труднодоступных склонах, вроде вот той горы. И пятнышки кое-где еще.

Горные племена живут подсечно-огневым земледелием - сжигают лес, сажают кукурузу и мак, затем забраывают участок и переходят на новый. Раньше лес должен был восстанавливаться семенами с соседних плодоносящих участков, теперь их нет, и, похоже, всё так и остается, как есть. Есть посадки тика, но мало.
И да, на 240 км 4-5 воробьиных и 2 хищника, парящих над травяными склонами (идет пролет).
The hill tribes live on shifting cultivation, i.e. they burn the forest, plant their corn and poppies, then abandon the terrain and move on. In the old times the forest recovered with the seeds from the neighboring old growth patches, now they are no more, everything looks to just stay as it is left.
And yes, for 240 km I saw 4 or 5 passerines and 2 raptors soaring over the grassy slopes (it is the migration time).
