(no subject)
I had intended for a lot of things.....like calling friends I needed to catch up with before I left and writing a long update for those who still read this and cared to hear what was going on, but a lot has changed in the past few days/hours....explanation to follow.
first, an update on the wrist: I'm waiting another 6-12 months to see if the pain subsides before they try to invade again. frustrating, cuz it hurts, but relieved that fighting with doctors is over for now.
PA: the official moving date is set! August 15, I begin the trek to become a Pennsylvanian (sounds like Transylvanian....I am not a vampire). I'm VERY excited! (about the moving, not the vampire). I've had one job interview at a Christian school. a prospective interview when I return from China at a charter school. for now, it's just the waiting game.
China: I leave in 30-ish hours!!! sooooo excited! but incredibly nervous too. we got our visas (finally), but they've kept on changing camp locations until we just gave up. finally, today, they told us. here's the official word:
We'll have 102 students, all from the SiChuan Earthquake zone who have been moved to Beijing until they can return home. They have lost their homes and schools, and most of them have lost family members. This can be an incredible opportunity just to show HIS love! They're mostly 4th and 5th graders with a few middle schoolers thrown in the mix, and all have low levels of English, so now we hafta teach beginner levels (I was slotted to be an advanced teacher). This sent me thru a whirlwind of feelings. I'm thrilled for this unique opportunity to love on these kids, but I've gone into a terrible state of freaking out cuz all the plans I've worked on all summer are out the window and we leave so soon! I'm in a frenzied state right now.....
So....all that said, this was a lot longer than intended, but it was needed for me to get that out *phew* ok, I think I'm calmer now, so it's back to work I go! You won't hear from me for a while, but my boyfriend is keeping our team blog while we're there, so you can keep up with us there: www.chinaculturalexchange.blogspot.com
