This weekend's show renewed that spark I used to have about pots. I remembered why it is that I do this. There's a new guy named Shadow doing some of the most amazing things in clay in this area. I suppose he's taken my place as the new upstart in town who's causing a stir in the craft scene with his fresh ideas. I'm an "old timer" now, according to York. I don't mind being an old timer, except that I feel like my pots aren't good enough when you put them next to these guys who have been doing this for 20+ years.
Mainly what I took away from the guild show is the idea that my pots can and will be that good soon, and I need to keep making more. And I should not lose faith. I don't want to lose that spark again when I have to make $10 pot, $10 pot, $10 pot, ... to pay the bills. I promise myself to make the $300 pots too.
