First Sunday of 2010

Jan 03, 2010 11:08

Lucie woke up at 4:00a.m. and decided it was time for breakfast. She jumped off the bed and began scratching at Gej's crate, with the desired of effect of waking both him and me. So, downstairs with the dogs, food, water, and some delightful time in the predawn cold as they emptied themselves to varying degrees. By 4:30 I was back in bed.

I fell back asleep and woke at 6:00 to the faint buzzing of my cellphone. I'd set an alarm, but I'd turned the ringer off at the memorial service yesterday. Still, it got me up. I went into my office and to my amazement and delight spent the next 90 minutes writing (about 1100 words).

Eightish o'clock saw my wife and I gearing up to go to the local community center. Actually, it's the next town over's local community center; our community doesn't have one. Which means we pay "non-resident" rates. And so we ponied up big bucks this morning to buy a year's membership for two adults. This gets us unlimited access to their facilities which includes an aerobic and weight-training room and a very nice pool.

Valerie was lucky enough to snag one of the three elliptical machines while I had to settle for a treadmill. I did a bit over a mile, and then we adjourned to the pool. Valerie performed various water walkery and aqua aerobics while I impressed myself that I could still swim a third of a mile. Then we sat in the sauna for a while, drying out.

Not a bad way to start a Sunday.
