I think I said that about three times Friday afternoon. Here's how it started:
I get a call from Erin a month or so ago saying that Nate wants to do our annual shopping trip in Boston on this past Saturday. Ok, I will have to miss teaching fencing, but I love this trip, so I'll make it work. Fast forward to this past Friday afternoon when I arrive at their apartment and am told that in fact they lied and I am not going to Boston with Nate, but rather with Erin, Erin, Christiane, my family and about ten other friends. It was apparently supposed to be all girls at first, but Adam, my dad and my brother joined us. Its a ridiculously early birthday present. This is where the "I am so confused" part started, since my birthday isn't until January 23rd!
So now I know that there is something special happening for me on Saturday, but I don't yet know what it is. In fact, I don't find out what we are doing until we arrive at the hotel and start walking up the stairs to see...
A chocolate buffet.
In fact, this is the #1 rated chocolate buffet in the country. It was amazing. Hundreds of little gourmet chocolate treats of every imaginable type, plus a crepe station, cupcake station, homemade ice cream station, a chocolate fountain and even chocolate bar drinks. We ate chocolate until even the idea of eating more became somewhat sickening.
It was glorious.
I still can't believe that they managed to pull this off and keep it a secret from me for so long. (They started planning this back in May, apparently.) I have never had a surprise party like this before and I loved it.
The best part? My best friends Erin and Christiane did this for me because they said that I have worked so hard to spoil them with their weddings and Jack over the past two years that they wanted to give me a day to be the center of attention and spoiled. They are the best friends ever.
