It always bothers me when people come out of the blue to tell you they hate or dislike or are completely disinterested in something that you're very interested in.
I was reading a LJ entry about someone's opinions on the latest Harry Potter book (they didn't even spoiler anything in their entry, other than "someone dies". And someone goes out of their way to say, "I've never been interested in Harry Potter. Started reading it, got to this one part and lost interest."
Well, gosh, thanks. That's really insightful, entertaining, funny, a worthy addition to my daily read.
Why can't people just say, "that's great" and move on. Or nothing at all?
I can completely understand if someone goes, "Have you read Harry Potter?" and you respond with, "Well, I tried, but I'm not interested in it, really. Wasn't my thing." That's fine. I can totally respect that. I had sort of that conversation this past week with my bro's fiancee. She loves the movies, but can't really get into the books. I invited her to come to me if she ever wanted to read them, but didn't go all, "OMG U SHUD READ NOW OR UR NOT A FAYUN."
So why do people disinterested in something go out of their way to tell you so?
"What are you doing?"
"Oh, I'm watching one of my reality tv shows."
"I hate reality tv!"
"Okay, I knew that. I didn't ask. I just told you what I was doing."
Here's a great thought, guys. If someone makes an entry in their personal LJ about their thoughts on something, unless they ask the general public, "What do YOU think of it?", don't go out of your way to say you don't like it, aren't interested, don't care, give it to your dog to pee on.
It's so rude, y'all.
It's also so freaking annoying to have to feel like you have to tiptoe around a conversation because anytime you even mention it, the person responds with, "Oh, that? I hate it. I can't see how you can stand it."
