Lady Jane: The Nine-Days Queen

I watched this movie today on the Hallmark Channel (it's new, apparently...)... It was called "Lady Jane" and was done in the 80's about the last year or so of the life of Lady Jane, the nine days queen.

To tell you where she was in history, she was the middle ruler between Henry the 8th and Elizabeth the 1st. That is, after Henry's son died, she ruled, then Mary, then Elizabeth. There, got that? Lady Jane was about 15 or 16 and only ruled for nine days.

I'm left wondering how accurate the movie was.

It portrayed her as being in love with the young (though doomed) King, and he was more or less intending to marry her (and vice versa), until his illness became such that it was rather pointless. So she was forced to marry the youngest son of the King's advisor, but soon afterwards, fell in love with him.

If that part of it is to believed, it was all for the better, because they seemed to be very much in love. It was sweet. Though tragic for them in the end....

Jane was more or less forced to be queen, and she attempted to do the best for her people in the short time she was granted. I missed this next part, so I'm not sure quite how, but her cousin Mary was declared Queen and Jane and her husband were imprisoned.

I'm not sure for how long... But eventually Mary's husband/prospective husband (prince, I believe, of Spain) said he wouldn't come to live with her in England unless she killed Jane and her husband. So Mary did this.

How horrible...

I hope she did love her husband. It would make such a short life almost worth the early, and rather gruesome death.

This is going to disturb me for awhile, I think. I don't know if I'll ever know the real answer.
