splashy fen this weekend was pretty amazing. but it was really muddy.
we arrived on friday and found that my group had to work the late night shift (we were working selling tickets). so we all decided to walk around the festival before our shift. bad idea. it was late, it was muddy and i was wearing flip flops. of course, my cheap ass replacement flip flops broke after being stuck in the mud too often and i had to walk the entire way back to the worker's campsite barefoot. it hurt so bad. i was whimpering and crying the whole way. you would think mud would be comfortable and muddy, but not when it is mixed with rocks and other filth.
i camped out that night and it was freezing. i think we were all surprised by the cold. being in durban we are so used to the heat and incredibly hot weather. not here. it snows sometimes in the mountains.
saturday during the day was warm and beautiful. i was going on relatively no sleep, but i had a great time nonetheless. things were confusing about what shift we were working, so i got frustrated and went to bed early that night.
sunday was amazing all around. the day was great and so was the night. i drank a little too much and ended up dancing at a couple of concerts. we all know i don't dance. but it was fun. there was some american indie band playing and they were kind of cool (redflecks for anyone interested).
overall: it was a good experience--met a lot of white south africans (mostly boys), experienced the south african folk music scene and just chilled drinking beer and savannahs. yum.
most of all, no one was worried about the isp and now that we're back we are all freaking out. i think i'm going to be doing my isp in cape town working with an organization called institute for the healing of memories. i still have to contact them though, but we will be visiting them on tuesday as a group when we're in cape town for the week.
nuts.
it just sucks that i'm going to cape town because there is so much that i want to do in durban yet. i will find time for zulu jazz lounge, bat centre and ushaka marine world. i must! also must of my group members will be in or around the durban area. i don't even know if there is anyone who may be going to cape town (there are like 2) who is willing to leave with me. not looking forward to three weeks of solitary confinement. :(
we leave for cape town in an hour and i still have some minor packing to do. plus, i should be really be getting my isp proposal ready...ha ha...ugh.
in other news, i still haven't heard anything back from the summer programs i applied to. this makes me nervous. i really want to do the minnesota program so hopefully i get in. pretty sure i didn't get the colorado program because i haven't heard back from them yet and don't think i will be hearing anything from them. :(
too many things to think about. like when the hell is lake forest registering for classes??? i have limited internet time in the next couple of weeks and i would really appreciate it if i could just send in my course registration asap. why isn't even listed online yet??
