Hello all,
I know, I know it has been a really long time since I have posted. I will try to be better though. I am at Steph's sister's house. These people go to be so damn early! They are nice people though. I did well in my first quarter @ UCI. 2 A's and a B+. Not bad I think. (Note to all B- is failing). Starting to meet some cooler people out there. The pub on campus is now open and the beer is cheap and of good quality. Furthermore there is no a Dub near UCI. I think that this has great promise as well. To those of you who do not know I am thinking seriously of switching away from ATLAS and CERN. I have basically the next quarter to decide. I was thinking of going into plasma physics (fusion reactors etc.) but there are no research positions in that field at UCI. Perhaps some sort of materials physics??? I dont know, I will goto all of the seminars and such next quarter and see. I do, however, have a very small project with the ATLAS group at UCI next quarter. I will be helping to write a Graphical Interface (GUI) for the data quality control system for the ATLAS control room. This seems to be a good chance to invesitgate what research on ALTAS at UCI is really like. Professionally, during this past quarter I have begun to consder that perhaps full-fledged academia may not be the correct place for me once I finish my Ph.D. I am seriously starting to think about perhaps a comunity college position. The reasons for this are many fold. In other news, life with Steph is still awesome. It has been annoying as of late that she works in the afternoon / evening. It makes it hard for us to have meals togeather and spend time with each other during the week, but I am hopeful that perhaps I can further modify my scheule to make things better.
As for New Years, B now works as the Dub. I am going to find out from him when I get back to TUS (Dec 27th) if he is working that day or not. We may be able to have the party at my house. I will let all know as updates become available.
Happy Solstice, the days get longer from here.
