In no particular order, interesting things from the past two weeks:
  • I visited my family for New Years and arrived just in time to see the fireworks going off nearby. Perfect view from the highway, audible from the house. We had a fire. (In the fireplace (except for the one time a piece of wood exploded and a fiery chunk of ember landed on my grandmother)).
  • I forgot my boonie hat one day at work when I expected it to be colder. So I took it off and several people who see me almost every day honest to go failed to recognize me. One business owner recognized me, realized something was markedly different, and asked if I'd cut my hair. His wife called him an idiot and pointed out my hatlessness. Hats are not just hats.
  • December was understandable but when I still didn't show up in January, my sempai called to make certain I was okay.
  • One week was understandable, but when I still didn't show up the next Sunday, the stable owner called to make certain I was okay.
  • Keith and I went on a date in DC that ended up with a hat and a fancy dinner at a mildly fancy French restaurant and obsequious waiters. I'm pretty sure I ate pigeon. Actually, I know I did because I can read French, though whoever translated the menu couldn't quite get English.
  • Puddin', who is in fact Italian-American, recommends Tuscany over Milan if the goal is Alps and French caves with finger paintings. He also warned us not to drink the water. Hm.
  • I got to see an 8 hour old foal. They are like stick figures, complete with big heads, only on four legs.
  • I had a sore throat for five days with the yuck. Now I'm horking up snot, but I guess that's gauche.
  • I read all of Shortpacked. It took two nights.

daily life, work
