I got up this morning feel unusually energetic, but also experiencing the first warning haze of an imminent sinus infection. So I pre-medicated and went off for my riding lesson. I did great. While I'm prone to losing my post rhythm, I have one and it's correct. Today, I learned how to find, maintain and switch diagonals.
A diagonal is when you post in sync with the rail-side shoulder. This pitches your body slightly to the opposing side, so when your horses reaches a corner and turns, you remain in sync and it's less work for the animal. I'd noticed before that sometimes I had no trouble keeping at a post while turning and other times it felt like I was about to lurch off to the side and this was why. :) Mystery solved.
Afterward, I learned how to apply a liniment wash so the horse could cool down more easily in the summer heat. I could've used one myself.
Once the fun was done, I went off to run errands. First I discovered that the average dry cleaner won't accept a stinky motorcycle jacket. Keith had acquired a great jacket on the cheap, except it reeks of cigarette smoke. Having discovered this, I went to Sam's to pick up a few items, including a book of stamps, though I managed to leave them behind in the cart when loading. :(
Then it was back to Fudd's to get some long boxes and this week's books before coming home. I finished as much as I could of the scratching post, began cleaning the jacket, cooked myself dinner, packed away comics and did my best to ignore the burgeoning sinus headache.
