Busy Work

Stew:

This recipe may be halved, doubled, etc. In order of addition:

  • 8 cups skimmed broth, or water + bouillon, or any combination.

  • 1 cup dry beans, any mix or type.

  • 1 lb diced meat or tofu.

  • 4-8 ounces fresh mushroom, or 1/2 cup dry, minced, any kind.

  • Spices to taste: garlic, onion, dill, pepper, salt if necessary, cardamon (optional). I generally add 1 tablespoon or more of the first three.

  • Bring to boil, set medium and cook for 1/2 - 1 hour.

  • Add two large diced potatoes.

  • Add 2 cups mixed diced vegetables, fresh or frozen.

  • Simmer for a few hours, or transfer to crockpot.

Chores:

I managed to get things done today, though I mostly watched DVDs. Made food to eat for the rest of the week and fetched myself more bagels and bananas. While those two items may be combined to form crude sexual imagery, that's not why I got them.

Mushrooms:

Worked on mushrooms this evening. Mixed up some agar, using a touch of peroxide, as this is a non-sterile propagation method. Canned my back-up spawn and tucked the jars into a nice dark box. They'll do their creepy crawly thing while no one is paying attention. Put the dowel spawn back in the fridge because I need to fetch some hardwood mulch. Set a ready to grow block in a clean cat-litter bucket, watered it and put it in the cooler studio. Cleaned several large bins for the mulch. I can't agar or set the morels until I acquire charcoal and ash, though.
