Stuff

Things have been going really well lately. I ended up turning down the music school job, because I got offered another, full-time-with-benefits job four days later. I've been working at Gone to the Dogs, a dog salon, for a little over three weeks, and it's awesome. It's owned by a gay guy and his sister (as Nate said, how much more stereotypical can you get?). They only have about 8 employees, everyone is really nice, and I really feel like I fit in. My bosses are also really great, but really different, so it's been a challenge learning how to cater to their different personalities. They both come from corporate backgrounds, so they really know their shit, and Jeff, the brother, has been particularly helpful. He's constantly telling me how much confidence he has in me, which is a little scary, but also really nice. My position, Manager's Assistant, basically consists of learning and participating in every aspect of the business, from marketing to customer service to inventory to vendor relations to cleaning tubs and clipping dogs' nails, so it'll be awesome experience, and there's a lot of opportunity for advancement if I decide I want to stay there. So yeah, all in all it's pretty awesome, and I finally feel like I'm getting the hang of things, even though new stuff is being thrown at me all the time, rather than being completely overwhelmed.

Also, I can bring Iris, the new dog, to work with me. She is still super-cute, and very smart, which is not always a good thing. She's gotten to be a bit of a trouble maker when left to her own devices. Yesterday while I was at work, she managed to move her crate a good six feet across the laundry room. While she was inside it. I have no idea how that happened. She also chewed her microchip ID tag in half, while it was on her collar, and she's chewed part of her crate as well. As long as I'm around, though, she's an angel. I need to work on the clinginess factor. All my co-workers, as well as Nate's entire family, who met her at a cookout at his cousin's the other day, absolutely adore her.

In other news, because of the new job and the inability to find a new roommate, I am moving this weekend to a lovely ranch house in Bay Village, a block from the lake, where I will be living with a 29-year-old probation officer with a Masters in forensic psychology. She seems really cool, and I'm very excited about not having to drive 40 minutes each way to work. The rent is the same as I'd be paying here in Lorain with a new roommate (less than I've been paying), and there's a lot more to do in the area, so. Should be good times.

So that's what's been going on with me. It's weird that all the Obies are returning to campus soon and starting classes in less than a week, and I'm not. In some ways it's a relief to not have to worry about tests and papers and buying books, but it also makes me kind of sad. I went to happy hour last week with my friend Olivia, and I almost felt like an intruder. I feel so old! I'm planning on staying in the Musical Union, which will be fun (yay, more Dr. Floyd!), so at least I'll get to keep singing and go back to Oberlin once a week.
