Sleep Schedule Shift '06

So as you know, I go to bed late. Tomorrow I have to work at 6:30 am. How do I adjust to such an early shift? My ideas have been either to start tapering off the time I went to bed, but that would have required me actually following through. Sleeping pills have also been a consideration, although I never take them, and Amelia told me that sometimes first time users are affected a lot more heavily by them and have to sleep a lot longer. Another idea I had was just to stay up and go into work without sleeping. I'm sure this would work for the first 2 or 3 hours, but then I'd probably crash and then my schedule would be even more fucked up. My current brilliant plan is to use the post dinner drowsiness to my advantage, go to bed at like 9 or 10, and see if I can sleep until 5:30. If all goes to plan, I will have slept a good 7-8 hours, and I will be rested and ready to work. Let's hope it works.

I started semi-work (meaning mock shifts where we served to family and friends for free) last week and I start my first real shift tomorrow. I feel very confident in my job, and that makes me feel good even if it is just waiting tables. I was thinking about my job, and I think it's a pretty decent and ethical line of work. People pay for a specialized service, where although the price is marked up a fair amount, it is of better quality and might cost not much less if one were to cook at home. Waiting tables specifically relies on the faith that if one does their job well, the customer will be appreciative and tip well. In most cases, barring asshole customers and people who don't believe in tipping, the amount of work you put in affects the amount of money you make. Therefore one, at least I, get a sense of satisfaction knowing that my pay reflects both my experience, knowledge of the product, and hard work. As long as certain factors in the restaurant are satsfactory, I think I can be pretty happy in that line of work. Also, I pretty much grew up in a kitchen, so it's very comfortable to me.

I hate Grease. I really hate Grease 2.
