Well lent is here again which is always a big deal in Buffalo. All the catholics drink them selves into a stupor (i'm sure many protestants and atheists help them) then they get their own dot of ash followed by weekly complaints about not being able to eat meat. The friday fish fry ads will now fill the news papers and as i was reading Willa Cathers Shadows on the Rock I started wondering about somehting. Why is it that Catholics don't consider fish a meat? Andrea also pointed out that many vegetarians will also eat fish despite the claim that they eat no meat.
To me anything that is stripped from the bones of a living creature is meat. Snake is meat, crab is meat and fish is also meat in my definition. So why isn't fish classified as meat?
I'm thinking some kind of fishmonger conspiracy and paying off the pope or something.
